ok i have never got a baby poly but i went to the LFS and they had a whole tank full of baby sens at least 30 in a 10 gallon :screwy: and the had them labled unknown species:ROFL: and i asked how much they were and the lady said 3$:nilly: i was about to explode lol so i got 4 they are only 3-4" i have never had babies i have always got ones about 6" from a different LFS so my questions are:
how long can they live in a 20 long until they can out them with my other polys? (about 9")
can i just feed them shred up krill and bloodworms or something else?
why do they all hang around the heater is this normal do they like it really warm or something? tghey have plenty of other hides but why right by the heater?

sorry for the long story and so many ?'s i just want to keep them alive and thought i would share the greatest find of the month(at least for me) i will surely be back for more later today lol

Id say youd have about 3 months until there 6 inches so not to long until u can put them with the others. Nice find by the way haha. i Prolly would have bought at least 10 though. I always start with the little guys and feed them bloodworms and the shrimp pellets by Wardley. Once the pellets break up its easy for them to eat them.

And the heater thing. What temp is ur tank at? I keep mine at 80 and mine dont stay by the heaters. They hide up at the top in the plants but also at the bottom. I have noticed that some of my fish when really young tend to do that though. Just havent had my bichirs do this.

Good luck

ya today i went back and got another 8 of them but they actually had a name for them dinosaur eels which is no better than saying unknown species IMO lol so now i have 12 in a 20 long until i can clear out my 50 gal breeder and the temp in the tank is 83 throught the whole tank i cant wait till they are bigger :D

haha nice. Yeah thats what they call them at the store i work at. Im about to change it. The sad thing is thats what the supplier lables them as. I mean come one all you do is sell fish for a living get the name right haha.

Good luck. I know the joy of turning 3" babies into monsters.
Just make sure their bellies are full. A fat bichir is a happy bichir.
Try to get them on pellets as soon as possible, I find baby bichirs so much less stubborn than adults

I suggest you buy/make a heater guard to prevent them from hanging around heater
At that size, it could be fatal if they burn themselves.
