a LFS has 2" - 2.5" silvers for $17, is that a good price?
how fast will they grow? and max size?
temp, and water conditions?

compatible with monos and tems?
TSN? (until hes too big and goes into the pond of course)

how hard are they to keep happy? my monos and tems and TSN are doing great ... just wondered if this would be a good add (once he grows some, everything else is about 4"-5")

For growth rate figure an 1" to 1.5" per month on average. Could grow a little quicker or slower alot will depend on feeding and care. With in 18 to 24 months the silver should be in the 24" range. Once it get this size growth will slow to 1 to 2" per year. Eventually the silver should get around 3 foot long.

Silver aros under 6" are fragile and I would recommend keeping it by it's self in a smaller tank. I would not mix with your other fish until it is bigger then they are.

but if he is smaller than my fish now, he will not outgrow them for about 6-8 months?
i have a tank full of gouramis, and other lame lfs fish ... would he be able to grow out in there, or should i literally have him by himself ?

Your best bet is to pay more and get a silver that is already 7 to 8" long.

You could try it with the other lame fish you have, but it would be best to have it where it can grow quiickly and does not have to compete for food.

i agree, i would like to watch it grow, but i also understand the food issue
my smallest p.bass gets the short end when it comes to feeding, although he gets plenty!

the catfish is about 5"-6" i'd say ... pretty scrawny, but im working on it ... i wouldnt trust the arowana with him for a while, i just wondered if he were big enough, it they could coexist

** also -- are there any other types of aro that are a little more colorful, but not extremely expensive?? **
