We are the temporary care givers for a baby alligator snapping turtle, his shell is about 3 inches right now.

Our plan is to keep him through the winter and then release him into a friends large pond area in the spring. An aquantaince of ours had him and didn't have the room or time to care for him, and I hate to let him in the cold.

He is in a 40 breeder with rocks and driftwood he can crawl out on and about 5 inches of water. I also have a homemade filter with tons of media that I made with a powerhead, and an airfilter in a tube with filter floss to help aerate and add more filtration.

I also added a basking spot light and a Reptisun 5.o for him.

He wanted nothing to do with any turtle sticks so we put a few young guppies in the tank for him and all 4 were gone within an hour or so.

How often should we give him feeders, and am I missing anything in his set-up?

Is it an alligator snapper or a common snapper? Alligators don't need basking spots/UV lights.

Alligator.
He does occasionally crawl up onto the log and bask for a while, so I might as well leave the basking light.
.
Should I remove the UV light, will it hurt him? What about making sure he gets plenty of calcium. We just happened to have it at the house because I bought it for our bearded dragon and it was the wrong kind.

Won't hurt...but I've never seen one bask...
