I found a baby snapping turtle not near any water. I don't know if he got washed up by the flood we had the week before but its starting to get cold and he wasn't hibernating yet so i figured i will take care of him till spring. His shell is about an inch long so hes still tiny. Ive been feeding him small crickets and little pieces of worms. Does any one have any other suggestions for what to feed him?

I used tilapia

You can probably also get him to eat various turtle and fish pellets

If you intend on putting him in someone's pond in the spring, then just keep him on a diet of gut-loaded feeder minnows/rosy reds (feed them crushed turtle pellets), earthworms, snails, crayfish, fish fillets, and shrimp. That's what I fed the one that I used to have indoors that now resides in my pond; it grew pretty fast and did very well on that diet.

I've found that little snappers like that will eat parts of mice like tails and feet. Its a great source of calcium for the little guys and a pretty easy thing if you are feeding snakes to cut off a tail or foot and toss it in with your snapper.
