Doing water changes
I just picked up 10 baby umbees at my LFS yesterday. I want to breed these bad boys & girls. But what do you guys think would be the best way to get a pair out of these guys. once they get to about 3 inches i will be seperating them to prevent any losses from umbee on umbee crime. But besides seperating them what else can i do?

With these guys that brings my total up to 13 umbees. Ill post some pics tonight.

Play some Barry White? Sounds like you're doing it right. Have a divider handy, the partial divider method is probably your best bet when they're breeding size.

I HAVE 8 UMBEE'S I BOUGHT IN MAY 07 THEY WHERE ABOUT 1.5" AND NOW 4 OF THEM ARE ABOUT 4" AND LOOK TO BE FEMALES, 2 ARE 5.5" AND 1 IS 6.5" AND I LOST 1 BACK IN JULY, I HAVE THEM ALL IN A 180G. FOR NOW, WITH 2 T.BASS THAT ARE ABOUT 4" AND I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THEM TRYING TO KILL EACH OTHER , OH! AND I BOUGHT A 10" MALE FROM MY LOCAL PETSHOP LAST WEEK. BUT I SET UP SOME SHELTER ON 1 SIDE OF THE TANK TO SEE IF I CAN FIND A PAIR IN THE GROUP AN MY 6.5" MALE STAY IN IT WHILE 1 LIL FEMALE PROTECTS IT SEEM CRAZY BUT SHE DO'NT LET ANY OTHER FISH NEAR IT SO YOU MITE WANT TO TRY THAT METHOD.

Whoa! You've got 13 now? Dang that's alot of umbie! Did one of your original four go belly up on you or something? What I'm planning to do with mine is grow them out till they're sexable, then put the best male and best female together in a partially divided tank.

Yeah I lost one of the orignal 4 I came home and a managuense that was the same size killed one. So i went back to the store and they had some tiny ones i mean barely 1 inch. So i got them in 20 gallon for now. I think im going to pull the 180 out of the garage this weekend to set up and begin to cycle it. Im thinking of also putting up my 75 gal to so I dont overcrowd them and cause to much aggresion
