We purchased a small zebra eel about three weeks ago from our local petstore he is about a foot long. HE WONT EAT ANYTHING! we have had him in a quarintine tank for the first two weeks with hypo salt to make sure he is ok before we put him into our big tank. Now we have moved him and raised the salt a little more and he is in a 20 gal all by himself for about a week and he still wont eat we offer him dried krill and raw shrimp and shows no interest in any of it. i know zebra eels can go long periods of time with little or no food but he looks weaker and isnt swimming around much anymore. Any sugestions?

All the changes it's been through, it's no surprise. Are you bouncing food off a string, making it look alive?

Try soaking some small frozen prawn in garlic guard. They are about ghost shrimp size (unless you can find live ghost shrimp then do that route) and was what finally got my reluctant eels to eat.

Puffer is right on, try to get a thin strand of cloth or something, and tie the shrimp/meat to it and dangle it like you would fishing.

When feeding ghost shrimp to an animal, you really should gut-load it 1st with something nutritious. Otherwise they are just mostly water, no nutrition in them alone.

Thanks everyone, i did go out and get some ghost shrimp he may have ate some of them??? also had some extra brime shrimp and put that in the tank also, the ghost shrimp like them lol. i will keep trying!!!!!

Neither are of any nutritious value at all. Both are 97% water & need to be gut-loaded.

sorry for not getting back for so long been busy. the eel started eating a few weeks ago and seems to be doing good thank you everyone for the help
