I've heard of people complaining about adult males fighting for females in the aquarium setting. But if you take away the females do you take away the fighting?

Usually one fish dominates the others, but sometimes that fish is too savage and sometimes the other fellas want to be the dominator so badly they get themselves hurt or worse.

So theoretically if I had an all male tank I could avoid the fighting? Or do they need their pecking order?

I realized this was the stingray forum and not cichlid, my bad. I'm not sure honestly, one of the biggest selling points of rays is that you can make some $$$ back.

its a matter of territory in most cases. You can remove the female, not the drive for a mate and the space to attract one, wither one coming along or not. They eat, they sleep and above all they want to make little fish.

oopps ray thread, never mind.

Theoretically I believe that's the way it should work, however this obviously doesn't apply to all cases, because sometimes individual males will fight depending on temperament. Same with females, most will live in peace, but you will get the odd dynamo. Plus sometimes you just get a fish that is prone to being bullied for some reason, doesn't matter who it is sometimes fish just don't like certain fish.

Im not sure since I've only had multi gender tanks or one ray living solo, but I assume they would have a pecking order which may mean a bite here or there. Should be fine if your tank is large enough

I agree, my females nip at each other much more than my male nips at them or vise versa

I have kept a pair of males before. One being 2 years younger than the other. Never had any problems. The younger one was a lot more aggressive though
