I've not kept fish for 22 years. My grandson and daughter got me interested again. I used to be a very active breeder when I was a member of GAAS.
I've always wanted a planted aquarium and finding it is very expensive with the great lighting and CO2 systems that are out now.

I had many fish but I have fond memories of the angle fish I had that spawned and raised their own babies. I have and old picture of from back in 1978 I took with my Nikon F FTN that I bought back from Vietnam. I'll try to post it. I copied a slide with my Nikon 950 and slide copier.

I can get pretty good pictures if they would just hold still.

Welcome to APF, Larry. That's a nice looking angel. I'm sure you'll enjoy getting things set up properly, although I understand your comments about the costs involved. We'll be interested to see more photos when you're ready.

Welcome, Larry! I'm glad you're starting to look at getting back into the hobby. I started with a 3.5 gallon tank when I was about ten years old, but gave in to a severe attack of workaholism, starting about fifteen or so years back. Result: no aquariums from Summer, 1993 to January of this year, when I picked up a ten gallon tank, with gear, at my local aquarium club's monthly end-of-meeting auction.

Your post is ringing lots of bells for me. I bought a used Nikon F body, with the Photomic finder, and a new 55 mm Nikon macro lens back in 1972. It was the single most amazing piece of hardware, of any kind, that I have ever owned. It went away in 1980, when the house my wife and I were house-sitting was burgled. No insurance. No new Nikon. Sigh.

Also, I love the picture you've posted. Is that a cloud of fry above that beautiful angelfish?

On the cost of keeping a tank these days, there are ways to hold it down. I'm using what's called DIY CO2 in my ten gallon planted tank, and having a great time. As has happened with so many interests in this 'net connected world, there is a global community of planted tank enthusiasts sharing information, techniques, and personal tank journals. A couple of places to check out are The Planted Tank and Aquatic Plant Central. There are many more.

Thank your for the welcome Chris. :welcome:
That picture of the angle has a cloud fry. One of my fondest memories. And the reason my new tank has 9 new angles in it.
My hiatus of 22 years was due to a job relocation and during the move someone stole my 2 70 gallon tanks. I never replaced them and my families needs stifled my desire to start up again. I once tried to start a tank for my son but failed badly. This time I was very causus of my water quality and being sure I had a good break in tank. Once the first tank is healthy starting a second is as easy as moving some water and a sponge filter.

I plan to grow the angles up and get a pair. The breeder in me is still alive. I will definitely have some pictures in the future. I'm loving the plants an have a lot to learn along those lines. Now that I can see some success I'll be trying some DIY projects my self. Joined a local club which was always a wealth of information and inexpensive stock.
