came back from my holiday yesterday to find:

100 krib fry in a community tank, which was pleasing and im leaving them with the parents in the tank for now as the seem happy...

in my cichlid tank i had 2 dead tinfoils and i mean dead the tank was covered with bits of putrifying flesh and two floating skeletons it was a real mees everything was coated in bits of flesh and mucuoid stuff so i got cleaning and i have a small ammonia spike and no nitrite& the other fish are ok.. so im quite lucky anyone else experienced this?

Well it seems your kribs went into breeding mode and went agro like cichlids do. I never knew kribs to be agressive but then again I don't know much about them. You are very lucky to have your fish live thru the rotting corpses and amonia spike.

the kribs are in a different tank to the dead tinfoils ...

the krib fry are stil there and i am keeping the lights off for now as the parents seem happier...
hopefully the fry are getting food im using powdered tetra prima as it sinks and frozen daphnia. im not used to african cichlids breeding as i ususaly only keep central americans that chew up food for there young..

as for the ciclid tank i have done a 30% water change and will do another in a day or so.
i have added more airation to the tank to try and keep things healthy as it is very hot here and the tank is reaching 84'f or 29'c..

Im sure the smell from the tinfoils was a pleasant suprise lol. Nothing even comes close to the smell of rotting fish! Congrats on the krib fry though, pics would be nice!

yeah congrats, if the TFs were in a different tank im not sure why they died i would have thought it was the kribs that killed them if they were in the same tank, but i guess not lol

maybe the tinfoils were reincarnated as the krib fry.
