Found some of my old fish keeping books. It's quite interesting to see the progress of knowledge, technological advancements, and even aquascaping from then and now. For starters, I found it interesting that one of the books suggests that fish can be added at least 24 hours after set up.

My fiance's mom has a bunch of saltwater aquarium books from the mid 80's, I should go grab those. I think I also have a few freshwater ones from the late 90's and real early 2000's somewhere that I'll have to dig out.

I have A Fishkeepers Guide To Aquarium Plants. It's the same book as the ones at the bottom, but on plants.

Herbert Axelrod knew about cycling tanks, but attitudes were more lenient towards pretty much every aspect of fishkeeping back then, and I believe what he is suggesting is cycling the tank with fish inside. Would have to read the rest of the chapter to know for sure. One thing I can say is that in the last 15 years or so, due to the internet, people are generally much more informed than they used to be and try to keep their fish in more spacious, healthy accomodations. With how easy it is to research things nowadays, it really blows my mind when I encounter people keeping fish or worse, working in the aquarium industry, who have no idea what they are talking about.
