So I have been out of Africans for awhile. I just got a free 38 gallon Hex which I know is not a great footprint, but it works for growouts. Anyway, I have some small juvy SA cichlids I am moving from my 26 gallon bowfront to the 38 gallon. That frees up my 26 gallon. I bought 9 small Mbunas from petsmart from their "mixed tank", as well as other tanks. I will move them to a larger tank when the time requires it. How fast to Mbuna generally grow? How much time do I have in a 26 gallon with 9-10 small (less than 2 inch) Mbuna in a 26 bowfront? Oh, I have one yellow lab, one bumblebee, one red zebra, one kenyi, and 5 who the heck knows.

They grow pretty fast for the first handful of months, then slow down a bit. You'll know when to upgrade.

I used to have a 8-9 inch Bumblebee. I have a spare 55 when the day comes.

So are you setting the over at 90 days?

watch out for the lab....they get pretty agressive and territorial....
and it depends on how your feeding them as to how fast they will out grow the tank....

true..a lab male can go apey and kill other labs in just a matter of a couple of days once he establishes his territory. They generaly only attack conspecifics though...
