I first tried normal black spray paint. after my first coat, following coats just didn't stick. it just collected as powder that shook off.
So i scrubbed that off, and used Plasti-kote Brush On "Odds 'n' Ends" Fast Dry Enamel in flat black. That came out fantastic, the first coat was opaque, but i went with 2 coats anyway. The stuff really does dry fast- it leaves outlines of your initial puddle if you give it more than a minute before you spread it. I got this at wally world for under $2 for a 2 oz jar and it got 2 coats onto a 10 gal, back only.
I went back because i was going to paint some other tanks blue. But this kind didn't come in blue. So i got Krylon "Color Creations" Acrylic Latex Enamel. The only blue color they had was "Gloss True Blue" which is a nice color. The problem is, it is not opaque on the first or second coats. It looks fine unless there's a light coming from behind the tank. So it's just more of a peeve thing knowing that it's not opaque.
Here is the blue one that looks fine when light is from the front
Here's the same tank with light coming from behind
I tried painting some black enamel behind another tank that only had one coat of blue, and it was opaque, but the blue wasn't as vibrant, so i won't be going that route. gonna strip that tank down and start over.
So, i need recommendations on what you folks have used to paint your tanks blue. The paints i saw at wally world were basically the 2 i got and rustoleum. The only one that says it is for use on glass is the black one i got (plasti-kote). If it came in blue, it would've been perfect.
