After a couple months on hiatus, I have changed my 46 gallon to freshwater. I originally had a 75 but the gf wanted salt, long story short i decided my 10g salt was good enough and i missed my freshwater fish. I got everything cleared out and the salt stuff sold and now am lookin in on my 46 as a fresh tank for the first time. Going to get plants tomorrow, currently its pretty simple with an old fake petsmart decoration and a driftwood log on a slate until my manzanita waterlogs again.

Anyways, went out to the best freshwater store in the area for selection and saw this little beat up green terror, GT being the fish I wanted to build this tank around for now (calm down yes he will be getting a bigger tank when he outgrows this one) - He has a lot of potential but is fairly raggedy and thin right now (was gettin beat up by the female in with him) - they sold him to me half priced and its now my goal to get him to a full recovery happy and healthy, he's already eating so theres step one :P

got a media bag from previous tanks chillin in there and am dosing stability, have had a lot of success this way. Tomorrows goal is to get the sump cleaned up and get some pot scrubbies to run for media. I'll try to get some pics soon :)

well comeback for fresh water or try out craglist. Com in your area much find I lot nice used fish stuff

Welcome back! I took a salt dip a year ago, and still prefer freshwater. :)

pbass the LFS was aquariumoutfitters, there is virtually no freshwater selection that you cant find at a petsmart here other than them, nothing crazy special but they're good people and reasonable with most of their prices.

and yeah mudslinger salt is okay and like i said i still have the 10 gallon running but i love freshwater and thats all there is to it :P

got a pic on my phone of the setup, pardon the pic quality

Cool tank. Welcome back to freshwater! Is that the green terror in the pic?

thanks!

yep thats him, tried to get a close up so u guys could see the condtion hes in but hes zooming around just happy to not be getting beat up on anymore lol, the salt and melafix should kick in and get him nice and healed up soon though and eating definitely isnt an issue for him, just couldnt compete in the tank he was in it seems :(

Lol glad you got him, I know hes in good hands

yep :)

2 big questions left i have to decide

1) do i use this wet/dry filter or sell it for a canister (its a HOB overflow with a u-tube, bubble buildup drives me crazy and im always worrying its gonna flood) - its an Eshopps WD-125 single, rated for 100-125gallons which is nice, could probably sell with return pump enough to get at least a fluval 305 off ebay new if not a 405

2) what kind of tetra i want to go with, wanting a school of 6-8 and they need to be south american, any suggestions appreciated

The classic Neon Tetra, pencil fish, congo tetras and hatchet fish? I don't specialise in tetras that much so sorry for the limited suggestions and anything wrong. :D

And as for the filter, I would just go with what I have the time unless it's really causing a lot of concern, just to save the trouble of buying stuff from here and there.
