O.K. well the 210 tank in the house went over like a lead balloon when the leak started from my reseal job......(if interested see the for sale section). So now I'm on to bigger......I have a buddy with a backhoe and front end loader on his John Deere. Now, I'm thinking Big goldfish pond. Here's my question for all of you pond folks......How do y'all heat or do you heat your ponds? I'd like to be able to keep peacock bass, but know that the water temps get way too cold in Hattiesburg for that. I would love to know if any of y'all heat your pond. I had considered erecting a green house type enclosure that I could assemble for winter and remove in the summer, with some type of heater in the pond but was wondering if that would work.......

I'm open to suggestions.
 
Yeah I was thinking about that because I've "Tented" citrus trees in the yard with a lamp to keep them from freezing......the tent does more than you can imagine to keep the things from freezing. I was figuring if I put a jacuzzi heater and filter I could keep the temps in the mid 70s at least for the winters which is about like the temps get in the Miami canals.
 
I like that Idea of the biotope or biodome.
I know that some People heat there really big fish tanks with a house water heater.... that might work?.... but I'm no expert.
 
When I get full bore into the project, I'm going to need to get some ideas about filtration.....I have a friend that took down a swimming pool and I can pick up his pump and sand filter, I was thinking about getting some smaller pots (5 gallons each) and loading them with Activated Charcoal, BioMax, and Amonia Remover then back into the pond.....
 
yeah, the tent sounds like a good idea, but what I meant was like one of those completely glass sheds and its densely planted with like a monkey or something inside of it. Kind of like keeping a piece of the amazon forest or something. IDK thats like one of my dream fantasies. :=):
 
Now there's a thought......make a little ecosystem......
 
Where does one go to obtain the fiberglass materials y'all use to build customs?
