should i get a background? do they realy do anything. is thier brands that are better than others

What type are you asking about? 3D, the film kind that goes on the back or...?

Both hides the ugly cord behind and make your tank look much more like nature.

3D background replicates the latter better but you would have to fork more $ for one with good quality.

They also give the fish some sense of security as not all 4 sides are viewable. I would got for the 3D ones, period.

A personal choice. I painted mine black (though I had doubts painting a perfectly new aquarium). I have yet to add fish due to cycling though so I'm not sure if it will indeed make the fish standout and feel more secure. The plants do look great against a dark background.

Backgrounds are only cosmetics........I have seen 3-D backgrounds made out of stirofoam.......My 125 is fitted with a black HEFTY garbage bag background.........
