ok just to start off i am not putting pieces of wood in my tank from the backyard... but im wondering if i can take wood from there... break it to little pieces and boil it to get the tannins out, fish all the wood and other debris out and put the tanins in the tank... i would think that would be ok but idk if anyone has done this or, if anyone knows its safe?

That would possibly be a cheaper way to do it, but why not otherwise just buy some blackwater extract and add it to your tank? i'm guessing that would be a much less hassle way of doing it in comparison to boiling wood for every water change?

I dnt go n buy the bottles because its a 220 gallom tank so thated be a lot of liquid extract or whatever... I also want to try n keep it natural idk why jus somethin I do I guess... I orderd alder cones after I tried to do this experiment cause I realized I have to boil so much watter cause non of the wood back there has enough tannins in it or aomethin idk but it was really light... Thx tho but it was a fail lol
