My interest in "bugs" has recently come back and i've been taking pictures of all the cool ones that come out often at night. here are some pics in the order of
1) Fork tailed bush katydid. Makes a kind of 3-syllable sound (katydids got their name from the sound they make). When I was near this one, it just made quiet chirps, but as i backed away it began to make its normal sound again. (~2" excluding antennae)
2) Green lacewing. May not look like much, but I think they're cool since theyre predators even though they look delicate. (~1.3", including antennae)
3) Longhorn beetle, possibly of the genus Parelaphidion. Really cool looking type of beetle. (~.9", excluding antennae)
4) Giant root borer (another longhorn species). This one was more intimidating than the last longhorn.. a lot bigger with nice pincers. (~1.7", excluding antennae)
Hopefully I'll upload more species as summer passes by!
