Nice shots - were you that close or did you use a telephoto lens? We used to get a ton of deer in our yard but since we fenced it (to keep in our two toddlers) they don't come in often.

Hello; It walked up to within 10 feet of me at one point. I called the TN wildlife people and a local agent stopped by. We tried to heard it out of the yard thru a 20 foot gap in the fence but with no luck. We think the mother is in a nearby field but so far the fawn is still in the backyard. I took down a 20 foot section of the fence some weeks ago so that the power company can get to a bare pole for removal. The fawn must have wandered into the yard last night and for some reason can not find the big gap in the fence even in the daylight. It has a big cut on a front leg but runs and moves well enough. I looked a few minutes ago and it was lying down in the shade at the back corner. The agent suggested that the mother may come back around tonight.
it's leg is wounded, some predator will get it.
there's no need to herd it out to the mother. she will find a way to get to it and let it nurse. I wouldn't doubt it if the mother herded it into a place that she knows is safer. wild animal moms "choose" places for their young to stay (babies are bedded down, but..) and they return to them. that mother knows her baby is weakened.
It'd be nice if it had some brush or something to lay down by. let mom do her thing. she might have two & is doing the best thing for both.
You've been tagged as a relatively safe haven.
I was fishing a couple weeks ago and stumbled across a fawn bedded down in some grass, I walked right onto it before I noticed it. I got the heck out of there because protective mother deer can be vicious.
