on an icecube.....
i know this is way over stocked but i have had some problems setting up my other tanks its just temporary, i have three small retics, all eating PE mysis and do realy well, one jurunese and a prochilodus, i know a ray risk but so far so good, in a 55g with a sponge filter and AC110, on monday i added two fire eels and a tire track and eel, i got them from a good source and they looked realy good, but then one got whiteish discolored patches on him and his eyes and face turned white, i moved him to a 10g and dosed with furan 2(only med i have besides metro and prazi rigth now)he did not survive the night, the second fire eel did not look to bad now hes upside down under the sponge filter with the same symptomes i dout he will live ontil morning,

iam trying to get some maracyn but can i dose the tank with it or will it hurt the rays? they seem totaly fine but what ever this is it kills fast seems in only 24hrs-, but they are doing so well i dont whant to risk it by useing meds what are the chances of them getting what the eels have? and is there any other meds i should use??

any other suggestions would be great

you don't need meds, the eels just need a different water chemistry. likely they need harder more alkaline water. your water may be too soft and acidic. IME they always melted on me when dropped into tanks with low pH and conductivity. They may adapt to it over time, but not instantly. learn more about the needs of the fish you are getting before you get them. this is not a disease issue.

your problem is your tank.... thats a hell of a bio load for a 55 gallon.... you need like daily 50% water changes... time for serious upgrade

yes i know its over stocked, the rays have been in there for 4 or so months and have done great, i had to put the prochi and jurunese in there two weeks ago as i got a gulper cat and he was larger than i thought and they would have been lunch, they will be in either a 75g or split between the 55g and a 65g soon i just need to fix the stand for 65g

the water is not the problem, they were dripped for afew hours as my water is ph 8 and hard as rock LOTS of calcium ect leave horrid water lines on my tanks, and the rays still act and eat normaly i did an 80% change when i noticed there problem and it did not help

the person i got them from said he has had the same thing happen to one when he touched it to get into a new and that the slime coat is falling off wich explains the fast dead and why no other fish are effected, and i did have to push them into the net to get them into the tank so mabie thats it,

iam moveing the tiretrack to a 15g and treating him with maracyn and see if that helps

yea a 65 and or 75 gallon aint doing you no good either...good job on researching your purchases... too little water too much bio...
