i am currently treating a motoro and is not getting any better infection continues to spread. i have made some poor decisions lately had a 5" motoro that developed fungal infection do to a another stingray competing for food that created injuries to the ray. so i decided to move some rays around to try to save this ray. in the process it was too late for the 5" ray and the other ray got caught in the net and i mean caught in the net. i feel horrible i knew this ray was going to get stuck i bundled the net up so it would not have any depth but still not sufficient. now the ray is suffering from Saprolegnia or just a bad bacterial infection. the infection is spreading to the base of it's tail. i have tried Metrnidazole, salt,Nitrfurazone, and Melafix in conjunction with Primafix. nothing is working. ray is still eating well but infection is spreading. i have not heard of anyone using injectable antibiotics. i think if i had access to them there would be a better survival rate for this fish or any others that i may have to treat. i think about the cost of some of these rays and i sure would hate to loose some of them yet alone i have really hated losing the rays that i have lost. i promise i will never use a regular fish net to net out a ray again.

so what do you use to medicate your rays?

thanks
john

after removing the meds maybe dose maracyn and maracyn 2.... they have worked great for me....

tough situation, I think you made some of the same mistakes I went through. Could be too much in conjunction, think DW called it "shotgun meds" when I did it haha. I know you want to try whatever will work and when it doesnt, try something else, but try to be patient. Like David said, I would try to let your water cycle through the current meds before anything else. By the way, my lil guy pulled through just fine after I chilled out with the shotgun meds, steady water changes and just salt without Pima or Mela dishsoap. Ill post update pics later. Hope all works out for you!

heres a pic of the tail and it's stinger. yes i didn't tell you that part. don't be to hard on me i think i have really made some poor decisions so enough of that lets move forward and try to save a ray. ray is not in quarantine so if suggested i will take that in consideration. still eating well so thats good

Prazi treats internal parasites?

Not sure how effective this is, but we used meth blue for stinger fungus.. Alot of rays would break tails, lose stingers, and get fungus from them being out of water.. We would see alot of white fuzzy tips importing rays.

We would apply meth blue directly to the fungus on the stinger, and it would turn blue and look like cotton candy. We also used aquarium salt, and good water quality.. The fungus would usually fall off within a week or so.

I have also heard for bad stinger cuts, that pulling the ray out of the water and swabbing with iodine is also effective.. probably very stressful though.

im gonna keep that in mind thanks for the info :)

thanks for the info not positive it is fungal due to the fact that there is no cottony look to the infection. i guess i will do water changes every other day and treat with salt and see what happens unless someone can suggest a different approach, still feeding well. who knows maybe he will pull threw?

I had a female yank a stinger out and it looked like that. Honestly, as David said, lots of water changes helped and added a little salt as well. What is your tank temp at? Not sure if temp helps, but my tanks are at 84 most of the time and with good water and that temp it worked for me.
