Bad day of fish keeping

I fed the tanks this morning usually drogon comes out and eats right away didn’t see it anywhere look around tank there it was dried up.... gap is only 1.5” in the back, glass tops must have really got a good go before carpet surfing. Really really sucks my favorite fish I’ve owned loved watching it swim looked just a dragon... I can’t afford a new one I actually traded a bunch of fish to get it. Idk what I’m gonna do

He was a big guy, it’s always a shame when a fish close to us decides to see if they can fly.
Out of curiosity what was he? I think scarlet is in the name.

Bummer man, so sorry for your lost. He jumped out? Wow, never seen a pleco do that. But these things do happen and I know it’s not going to be the end of your fish keeping days. It has happened to me and plenty others. Keep your head up bud.

Lifted the top. I hang pothos and there were leaves on the ground behind tank so must have been a struggle to get out.

So sorry I’ve never known them to be jumpers either. Did you happen to check the water to see if anything was “off” to cause him to jump?

What kind was he?

Water was fine. Two birchirs in there they seemed fine. L25 scarlet cactus. He would swim around the surface at night never thought it could fit thru or lift the tops

Heres a good video on what to do if that happens again with a different fish and you catch it before it dies on you. I also wonder if it would be possible for a fish to be rendered unresponsive from a lack of oxygen but still have some chance of survival if found in time.
