Came home last night from South Carolina I live in North Carolina and had been gone for 3 days because I had to be in court. So while I was gone I had my mom watch my fish at my house and feed them once a day. She is always very good about not overfeeding and my tanks are always the way they were when I come home. Well this time I came home and I was looking in my little 29 for my big at least 5" tiger barb "Jaws" and he wasn't there. Apparently since I had turned the temp up to 86-88 because I was treating it for ich she thought it was too hot. So she turned it down back to 80-78, fed them and left. Well you all know what that did shocked all the fish in there from the temp drop...:( I lost others too....a 2" clown loach, a 3" yo yo botia, the big tiger barb, another nice 2.5-3" albino tiger barb, and a krib...:( Bad Day

That sucks. You should have told her that you had the temp. up so high for a reason.

Awww, I am so sorry that happened. I have a notebook with instructions, detailed instructions for when I go out of town. It may seem nit picky but I do that bc I am super paranoid. It's almost like I give my pet sitter a class before I leave, bc I go over the notebook over and over again. lol.

She should have called and asked you before changing any tank parameters.

(I think you should sue Petsmart!:ROFL::ROFL:)

Kidding man. Sorry to hear about the horrible loss.

I have a notepad list mommyjulia for the differents types of pellets and diameter sizes on how much to cut off of the block of frozen squid or shrimp I'm that nit picky too...and balton looks like we could all get a free ride out of petsmart here lately...

Sorry, man. That's why I'm afraid to go anywhere and rely on others, who are basically clueless, to care for my babies.

Its not that she is clueless, she actually almost knows 50% of what I'm talking about most of the time from hearing how I keep them and what kinds they are and their individual temperments and such...she wants a new tank in my parents house for africans...she likes the colors and cichlids. She was actually being quite knowledgeable by turning it down to save them, but she doesn't know how to treat for diseases thus not knowing the temp was up too keep them healthy....I got a german blue ram to go with my other I got a week back today and two panda cories but I'm really going to miss jaws my tiger barb he was huge If I can find some pics I'll post them up everyone always commented thats the biggest tiger barb I've ever seen. I had a 55 waiting on him to move "his" school of barbs in there. Too bad he didn't make it.

Sorry, I didn't mean your mom, I meant the people I have taking care of mine. :) When my fish were small, I went on my honeymoon to Mexico for a week, and I put each day's food in one of those daily pill containers (the ones that have 7 spots for each day) and told my mother-in-law not to touch anythong, just feed the food provided for each day. You actually have someone that knows something about what's going on. You can't blame her for trying to fix the obvious (so as she thought).

I give my mom direct instructions by calling here when i would usually tend the tank.
