I have a 6inch arrowanna with fin rot pretty bad. i did the marclyn(blue box with 2 small fish on the front, packets of white powder) or whatever treatment twice. after the first time the fins looked better but got worse a week or so later. the second time there was no difference. im positive i did the treatment right both times but for what ever reason didnt work. does anyone of some other ways to treat fin rot? thanks.

Good Luck!!!

Not sure but maybe aquarium salt or check on the sticky for diseases and such for arowanas..

What kind of water conditions are you keeping this aro in? Usually just by keeping nitrates under 10ppm you can cure the fin rot. Does you arowana have any tankmates, if so what are they?

He does not have any tank mates. I don't know the water conditions but all sections are with the "good" coloring on my tester. Also, I change at least 50% of the water at least once a week.

Seems strange 50% is an awful lot to have to change for a single fish. How big is the tank? I would get a good quality test kit and change jut enough water to keep the nitrates under 10ppm also less volume but more frequent WCs will keep for more stable water parameters. Less stress for the fish. How is it eating?

its in a 10 gal tank right now because of the treatments. my test kit always shows that at nitrates are good (under 10). I kind of always thought 50% was better then 20%...am I wrong?

50% water is way too much. You should stick to around 30%.

Why is he in a 10g tank???? Do you have a bigger one for him?

Yes I do 50% percent on all my tanks. But when I raised by baby aros I do a 20-25%every two weeks, though mine were kept in a 55g. Baby aros are sensitive and should have stable water parameters. The problem with the ten gallon is that the water params can fluctuate which can cause stress. I would do 20% every 3 days instead of the 50% once weekly.

My sil aro also had severe fin rot.
Maracyn II, salt, WC's did not work, even after 2 weeks.

I do not advise you to do the same as I did, but this is what I did to help heal my aro.
I took her to a aquatic vet. After a culture and further examination, the vet. Gave my aro a shot of amakacin. After 2 more shots from me at home, the fin rot healed completely.

Take a water sample to your local fish store and have them test the water for you. I did this every week before I purchased my own test kit.
