Just curious but if a fish looks "normal" are there any other tell tale signs of bad genetics?

Every characteristic the fish has will be the result of genetics… Including (but not limited to) the way it looks, it’s immune system, strength of it’s organs, size, mental capacities, etc, etc…

There is no true signs to look for in a baby fish that will give you a solid indication about it’s overall “genetic condition”… If there were, it would likely vary from species to species…

One thing to keep in mind… Our Cichlids have evolved to produce hundreds of offspring per brood and many broods per year. Statistically far less than 1% of these offspring are meant to survive to adulthood. Survival of the fittest is how nature weeds out the genetically inferior fish. But in aquarium breeding systems, the breeder takes steps to keep as many fish of every brood alive as possible…

Therefore, aquarium bred fish are going to be genetically inferior to fish who have been born and grown up in the wild…

Awesome Info! Exactly what I was look for just some good facts. Thanks! :headbang2
