Well my rtc/marble got a nasty burn from the heater some hes in a tank by himself with meds. but now the burn is a little fuzzy is this bad??? Im using binox from jungle and stress coat with aloe vera
lol tonight, I had a bad heater experience also... no burns though. Was doin a partial water change, I noticed my heater was out of the water, so I tried to push it back into the water... I dont know how, but I ended up breaking it. It remained on for a second or 2 and shut off automatically, while me and my fish got zapped... thankfully, no casualties. I shut the powerstrip down in about .003 seconds , i was more scared for my fish than anything-
Clean water is always the best med for physical injuries, white fuzzy stuff can sometimes indicate disease like columnaris or body fungus, but the Binox med should treat such problems if they do occur- i've never kept RTC though, so i don't know if the white fuzzyness is simply part of healing process.
Just keep up on that StressCoat treatment and regular small water changes to help keep the water crystal clear and free of diseases and make sure the RTC gets a good varied and appropriate diet and the RTC should heal up fine .
I've read that things like heaters should be protected with a cage around them, as not only can catfish like RTC get burns from them, but when they get larger RTC can also try and swallow heaters (which would not be good at all, if it broke the heater it could electrify the whole tank etc).
Does your RTC have hiding places like caves or pipes that it can easily fit into? Some catfish will try and hide behind heaters if there aren't any other places in the tank they can hide under. Also in very large tanks the heaters can simply be so powerful that they just burn the RTC should it touch it, so its always a good idea to put a cage of some sort around the heater to protect both the fish and the heater .
Yeah, I always use external heaters or titanium heaters. If titanium heaters are used in the tank I cover with rocks so that no fish touch them as they are powerful heaters. Burned myself under the water on one. Glass heaters in the water spell bad news for rtc. They are too curious for their own good. Same goes for any hybrids of theirs also. Good luck.
