so i'm changing the water in my 125 and i forget to take out the drain thing in the sink. 60 gallons of water get on the floor and there is fish crap everywhere. so after cleaning that up with various cleaning products, I wash my hand extensively. I proceed to my other tanks. so i finish my water changes, and then go to bed. everything is fine the enxt day except one thing, half of my exodons are dead. I check the water, it's perfect. i bring a sample to my lfs, they say the water is as clean as it gets. no ammonia, nitrates, nothing. the ph is normal as well. hardness is ok. everything, i come home, 2 more dead. im down to 5 exodons now and 2 of them are gasping. there is an AC110 running on this 30 gallon planted tank. i have this ecocomplete soil down as substrate, could it have had stagnant water in it? i dont know what happened. and needless to say, im furious, and i cant even punch a wall because I messed my wrist up.... like I said, bad Karma all around.

no i washed them extensively, and i had my hands in other tanks, the 30 gal. exodon tank was the last one i got to. all the other fish are fine.

did you you a sprayer when cleaning ,my house is a spray free zone lost some fish from the wifes hair spray its amazing how far atomized fluid travels and you said you were doing the tanks did you have the covers off while cleaning up?

no, i mopped the floor and when i used a spray in a separate room, it has been about an hour prior to even touching the 30 gal. tank

I always try to thouroughly scrub my hands and arms before I monkey around with any of my tanks. I'm sure this is "duh" advice to you and most of this forum's readers, but thought I'd share.

you said ecocomplete soil? Would you post alist of the contents of the soil, if you still have the package, and tell me exactly what cleaning products you used on your floor. I have a though, but I have to do some chemistry sleuthing.
Also, less complicatedly, did you check w/ a microscope for little organisms?

what did you scrub your hands with? if you used some kind of soap did you make sure to rinse your hands thoroughly before putting your hands in the tanks? you said you had your hands in "other tanks"..did you have them in all your other tanks or just the 2 larger tanks? if say you only had your hands in the 125 and the 30 then it would make sense that a small amount of soap may be harmful to the smaller 30 gallon tank but not harmful in the 125 because it would be much more diluted. I'm not sure it would help much against soap (if that's even the problem) but you might try putting some fresh carbon on the 30 gallon just in case. :)

just a couple thoughts. hope you can figure out what's going on before you lose any more fish. :)
