Tell tale signs of Ammonia posioning.

1. Is your tank cycled?

2. What are your Water Parameters? Don't trust dip strips!

3. Could you have possibly wiped out you bacteria colony attempting to "clean" your filter and caused the ammonia spike?

4. In order for the Nitrates to cause this reaction, you would have had to be well into triple digits. If this is the case, DO YOU EVEN TEST YOUR WATER?

I am not knocking you, but if you plan on keeping fish, ALL OF THE ABOVE MUST be followed. If this seems to much like "work" then you are clearly not cut out for the hobby of tropical fish keeping! They make some adorable tropical fish screensavers that could fill the niche!

ok first off tank is cycled and when i got the fish it was yesterday and the amonia level was o ppm and i dont trust dip sticks most in acurate thing in fish keeping and by telling me mabe im not cut out for the hobby when i have been doing it for over 10 years and telling me to buy some dumb a** screen save makes me feel ataced and as you pu it knocked so befor ya go judgen and throwing aroud ignorant ?s ask proper ones and my tank is a quaeretine tank s and is always kept cleen and cycled.sounds like im not the only one having a bad morning.

wtf screaminlee, like his fish just died. Your totally knockin, and thats not cool man. If your going to try and chew someone out without knowing anything about the situation, at least show some tact and do it to when you might possibly be of some help.
duster, i'm no expert on fish sickness, but i'm pretty sure i remember reading someone saying something about bacterial infections being the result of red streaks on bichirs on a thread.

yes i just read that sticky my self thank you. and im sorry for goiing agro but i feel like a total failur right now and dont need to be slamed.

Sucks when a new fish kicks the bucket for no reason at all.

I had a Snowball Pleco's do that to me, but he also took with him 9 clown loaches and my baby jardini.

I swear to the heavens and earth that I'll never buy fish from that pet store ever again. I even told their general manager what a #@%& up thing to sell someone a fish knowing the rest of the tank was sick.

All I can say is keep an eye on your other fish and pray it doesn't spread.

Good luck man.

Sorry duster. I am saying this out of frustration at myself for doing EXACTLY what I mentioned above with a "filter change". I killed ALL of the fish in my tank from ignorance (not rudness) by attempting what I read here on "Jumpstarting" a fishless cycle. In replacing the established filter with a brand new one, I did two things, I successfully cycled the new tank quickly, and very quickly spiked ( overnight ) the ammonia to just below 1ppm in the already established tank.

Again I am sorry comming of jadded, but it is always in the best interest to post the water parms. when asking a question like this. I got reamed each time and I thought that I could return the unfavor.

Don't worry about that guy, that was competely uncalled for... you didn't deserve it.

The red streaks are usually indicative of a bacterial infection from what I understand.

Where did you get it?

yes i understand i have done that in the past and no what it is like and have no hard feelings twards you. and the water params is always a good ? to ask as well aas tank mates but dont push the issue about. not being up to snuff untill the person showes bad params wich is hardly ever so they dont look like crap and it lookes like an accidental death. i am new to bichers and was just asking a ? on if him not surficeing wuld cause the death but went and read the sticky and belive it to be an internal paracite. but spot on diagnosisi on ammonia poisining it has the same red streak effect.

i got it from my not so close fs they have a 4 day stayalive gurantee so it will be going back and i will just have to get some thing else and try bichir again at a later time.
