One my cycling fish had literally gotten wrapped around the filter intake tube, hes still alive, but i dont think hes going to make it, im afraid this might happen to my african cichlids when i get them

As was said, wrapped makes me think the fish was ill in the first place. (The only time I manage to kill some with a filter was with my powerhead and its filter fell off...)

Yeah i probably should have, other than that the tank is pretty clean, i think im going to get an aquaclear 110 , all the other cycling fish are swimming actively and eating, they seem healthy, no marks or abrasions.

that is correct, heck you water may be cloudly and better than on a clear day... It is amazing how things can spike when first setting up a new tank... I try to never do a fresh cycle...

I agree with the aforementioned posts. Clear water means jack in a new tank. The really, really bad things are invisible. The fact that a cycling fish got wrapped around an intake probably means it was sick in the fist place (no healthy fish can't out-swim the current from a filter unless you're REALLY over-doing it with your filtration).
