I learned a lesson the hard way when it came to tankmates for my new little hystrix ray. I looked up and picked what was recommended as good tank mates. I choose to keep one orange shoulder severum and three geo abalios. Boy was that a bad decision they nipped and spit sand at him way to much he is a little stressed and bit up. So their on a one way trip to the lfs ...it just goes to show how all fish have different behavior regardless of what people say normally would happen.

What size tank you got them in? How big is the ray?
Strange that Geos should act badly toward the ray, but like you rightly state, all fish are different. The only time i have ever known fish behave poorly toward rays is when they are new born pups and the fish is big, like a Bichir.

The fish are in a 90 gallon tank the severum was 2inches and the geo's were 3 inches with one 8inch the ray is roughly 5inches disk size

I had a similar experience with severum grow outs. These fish graze constantly while small and that means they will try anything, including stingray pups. I am hoping once larger they will comm together without issues, will keep you posted if it works out.

My older severum don't bat an eye at the rays in the 300 now. I think age helps.
