Hey There MFK,

In my 55 gallon i had an issue...I believe my male tried breeding with my TC [which they have 2x before] but this time she was badly messed up. So bad that another fish started pecky at her [i think it had to do with her being so messed up and raw] Ive never had 1 issue with this tank til they tried mating for the 3rd time.

It was so bad when i checked on her the next day that i transfered herinto a breeder bag {thankfully i had an extra one} Shes now eating and starting to swim around for the last week. But like i said she got it bad . Her head the most.

I need to know will this recover? I understand she may be scarred; i just wanna make sure im not tormenting her keeping her alive. Like i said the past week shes been doing alot better both eating and swimming. Altho she gets sketchy when you go to feed her-hell i would to if i was half mingled; Ive been using aquarium salt and melafix which my LFS told me i should do. Please any help...

Stop using Melafix and get a true antibiotic like Kanaplex. If it were me, I would use methylene blue to speed healing, pickling salt/non-iodized table salt to slow down any bacterial infection, 75-77f temp to prevent columnaris, and Seachem kanaplex to stop any gram negative infection that shows up.

thank you so much...where could i find these antibiotics? can i get them online or from the fish store?

Does anyone know when a fish is healing? Will it like scab up-guessing not bc its totally suberged...but im asking bc since Texs' incident she seems well except from her scales thats good to the injury its now like almost looks like its scabbing its way up but its black...is it rotting?? :-(

I can't claim to know about your fish progress (or not), but in my experience, black (or dark) on a dark fish more often means progress than further deterioration. On the other hand, light color, specially if with fuzzy texture almost always means a Saprolegnia-like fungal infection. So I would not necessarily assume that black means getting worse, but a picture would be useful to be better informed.
Even for your own use and records, having pictures of the changes day to day will give YOU a better handle on progress or deterioration, because memory quickly fails from one day to the next, specially during a long(ish) protracted process of recovery.
Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

NO! I absolutely LOVE that ANSWER lol [ not saying ur 100% but im thinking the same] But yes i was thinking th same as for PROGRESS. And ur 2 cents was all i askd for lol. Thanks so uch. I will post pics when she settles bc she hurt her head a lil more to where a piece is hanging off bc we transfered her from breeding bag to a lil hospital tank. Has to be way more comfortable and roomy. But shes still swimming and was eating before we moved her. Also my LFS told my hubby friday to get Furan-2 so we started that antibiotic or medi. So lmg her a lil time maybe a day orso and ill take recent pics and post them! THANKS SO MUCH once again!
