is bagarius bagarius a true giant or dwarf? I have read very conflicting info on what I consider
Typically credible websites.

Also what are people's experiences keeping either in a warmer tank (75-83)? Thanks

Bagarius Bagarius is the highland giant. I really dont believe there is a dwarf species. The Suchus is the smallest species.

I have no experience with Suchus but Bagarius Bagarius did just fine at 82F its whole life. Just oxygenate the water.

Suchus is reportedly less than 3ft in length and I do not know of a large one in captivity.
The “dwarf” one looks more like a runt to me than a true separate species.
bagarius bagarius is a true giant and in my opinion does not want to be in warm/hot water all year round.
Check out the detailed sticky post on them.

I've yet to see a suchus reach 2' in captivity. Doesn't mean it hasn't happened, just that I've not seen it.

I think we can expect the best cared for suchus to get close to 2' in captivity, but not much more.

would i be right to assume theyre not too active?
(hypothesis based on the behaviour of a bagarius/yarrelli im not sure which that i had a while back)

Yes, predominantly nocturnal although not averse to being out and about with the lights on, especially if feeding. Expect any bagarius to find a favoured spot under a low rock ledge of sort, preferably where there is some flow and that's where it will spend 80% of daylight hours. Can be reasonably active at night but again, nothing like as much as most pims or bagrid types, more in line with most doradid.

Ime, goonch can be active hunters when presented with feeding stimuli. Other than that, they tend to pick out two favorite spots- one in the flow, one in a calm area- and never really leave them. Again, ime, they'll park in the flow when hungry and go hang out in the calmer spots when fed. Ymmv.
