what is the smallest bagarius species available in the hobby? there were about 3 species at my LFS yesterday but i don't want to but it immediately.

What were the names of those your lfs labelled? From smallest to largest would be B.bagarius,B.suchus,B.rutilus and lastly the giant Bagarius yarrelli. Just to add though the taxonomic identities of the south east asian Bagarius need further investigation and besides the very flat looking B.suchus , the other 3 are very hard to tell apart.

i can only remember the suchus for sure. how big do those get? it's pretty pricey by the way. like $180? is this fairly priced?

Depends , which country are you in? Last year suchus in Singapore cost about 150+ but now droppped to 50+. But we are much closer to where they are caught.A good estimate of max size is around 50cm.

went to my LFS earlier to get the panaque. well the other bagarius sp they have is the rutilus. too bad they are not allowing pics to be taken. really find it weird.

I doubt the lfs could 100% ascertain the exact species. Just make sure it really is a bagarius and not the similar looking Glyptothorax.
