How long will it take a Bagarius yarrelli ate 3-4 inches to outgrow a 55g if kept alone. Also: is there anything special about their care. Are they picky eaters and could it be kept with a 5-6" LSN is purchaced at the same time? I've heard they will eat appendages of other fish kept with it.

They kill anything with them need to be alone.... And you will need a very big tank in the near future if you don't allready know that.

I would say four months would be safe Depending on how much you feed and what you feed

I've not found them to be deranged monsters. They WILL eat anything kept with them that they can fit in their rather cavernous mouths. They WON'T go ballistic (ala Mystus wyckii). I still wouldn't keep anything you value with them, as they will easily attempt - and succeed - to eat fish their own size.

Your real question ... if fed properly (to satiation every day), most of the Bagarius species should outgrow a 55 in less than a year. A lot depends on how you define "outgrow". I would consider it outgrown at 12", which it should reach in 6-9 months, IME. That would also depend on the temp you keep them at; higher temps cause their metabolism to increase markedly.

they grow around 1 plus inches a month.
so i'd give it a few months.
dotn keep any fish less than twice its size with it.
