just bought a bagarius 2 days ago. :naughty:
cant tell which species though.
hes doing well in my tank and hasnt tried to kill anyone yet.
can someone please identify him?

Looks like Bagarius yarrelli to me.

Great pick up...that's going to be quite a monster.

:headbang2

aww crap.
guess im gonna have to sell him or give him away.
or is there a chance of him living with my other fish?

I've never heard any success stories of them being kept with tankmates, but I don't have any hands-on experience with these guys so don't take my word as final.

I've had luck with my wyckii (14") and tankmates...my jardini (16-17") is in with 2 other arowanas (15") and I have 3 moray eels (3 feet +)in my salt tank. These are all fish that shouldn't be with tankmates (or in the case with the morays; similar species), but if you take extra precautions it may be a possibility.

I really have to emphasize that 'may'...it's a gamble. I've done specific things for each setup to allow for this compatability, whether it's specific feeding schedules and altered tank decor (like visual barriers and driftwood/rock cluster)

Worst comes to worst, give him a try for a while and if you see him starting to show aggression then sell him...I'm sure there will be someone on MFK willing to pick him up.

Just a side note, in my Baensch Vol. II atlas there is a note in the breeding section of the yarrelli that says ''Who wants to breed this demon, anyway?''

Best of luck...I hope it works out. You'll have to keep this thread updated because I know I'll be looking for updates. :D

Think DM has got rid of his p-bass :)

his big tank has dwarf caiman in it :)

^ yup he did.
i know he had a yarelli w other fish.
but peacock bass and most other fish he had were fast moving middle or top dwellers.
i have bichirs at the bottom and am adding some cats too.
so bottom dwellers are likely to be in the most trouble right?

His B yarrelli was in a tank on its own, he tried the two together, but there was a bit of conflict so separated them again. He may of had his first yarrelli in with his p-bass but not for to long, il have to check my pm's off him to see if i still have the info on them, or with a bit of luck he may see this himself.:)

channa, do you still have this guy?

I'm curious to hear how he's doing with tankmates.

yes.
still have him.
hes fine w tankmates.
some of the bichirs are smaller than him but he minds his own business.
he mostly stays near the filter outlet waiting for food.
