So, I just want to know, in general, which does you best when fishing? bait (prawns, squid, chook guts, etc) or lures. I have been using baits my whole life, but recently I've been trying out some lures, and it's got me thinking that lures are the best way to catch fish. I mean, they use lures in most the fishing tornaments. what do you think?

generally for me...
freshwater: lure.
saltwater: bait, unless im trolling in which case ill use a lure.

saltwater ill do some surf casting or fluking with bait, or troll with a lure (simulating a squid)

Lures and bait should be used according to the situation. Say for most saltwater bait is used to catch all sort of fish but in the case of spanish mackerel a fast moving shiny thing works better than bait. So its just really seeing whether or not a bait or lure can better match the hatch for that situation.

It def. changes with the situation. Sometimes when i fish i can have a bucket of minnows and not guy a bite, then i switch to a spinner and a bass hits it in 2 seconds.

The key is to be flexible. I have caught good fish when all of the bait users were catching 3 inch bluegill (i caught a bass and a 10 inch gorgeous crappie) but on the flipside i used a plastic worm for an hour only to have somebody catch a twelve inch bass first cast using worms.
If you have the right lures you can almost always outfish baiyt but i have caught my biggest smallmouth bass on shad. when all of my lures didnt work. Btw if i did have the right lures i might have caught something but i didnt. Lures have the advantage of covering a lot more water. If given a choice i would ALWAYS go with lures
