my saltwater tank has a pH of around 7.5 right now. i want to get it to 8.2~ish.
right now, im cycling the tank, so there are no fish inside. how much baking soda do i need to use?

Use crushed coral, its more stable. Since your PH is already a little high it will take more time to dissolve but you are cycling so it shouldn't matter to much.

Baking soda needs to be added every water change. Crushed coral sits in your filter, can be used for substrate or just placed in a bag in the back corner. When you see it get low add some more. It'll last longer than the baking soda.

yes use coral ... u may want to check the Hardness of the water and use somthing to get that up but not bakeing soda

But still, you´ll have to add some in every water change. Better to add crushed coral, that will give you a nice ph with good buffer, and cheaper in the long term.
