baking soda for bio filters

is anybody adding baking soda to make up for the akalinity consumed by bio filters ????

i add sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) if i really need to up my pH. but you need to watch very carefully because a little goes a whole lotta way...plus if u raise too quickly all u'r fish will feel free to let you know(by goin belly up). good luck.

this serious stuff, can be crucial
must be sure else can cause unwanted fish loss
take precaution!cheers!

Unless you are trying to keep very soft alkaline water, use crushed coral as a carbonate source. It does a better job and will help buffer your pH

Caustic soda(hydroxide alkalinity) works well...

I have quite a lot of cruched coral in my sump ... without it my pH would be under 5.
