Anyone have any luck keeping an oscar with a bala shark? It would be in a 125 gallon. I've seen a couple pics online, but just curious. I'd also like to get an orange pike, and maybe a salvini...Just wondering if a bala stands a chance.
Well it might work if you get more then one bala shark.
To make it work you MUST buy the fish when they are about 1 or 2 inches.
Also make sure you have lots of hiding spots in the tank, and keep your oscar well feed.
The same goes with the orange pike and salvini.
p.s This whole thing may not even work it just depends on how aggressive your fish are.
example- i have seen a video of a full size oscar in a planted tetra tank.
The bala I have now is about 10 inches long. I introduced him along with another bala to his current 125 gallon home when he was about six inches. The resident male festae (about 8 inches at the time) bumped off one bala but not the other. The festae is gone now but never bothered this bala (other than small nips that didn't result in damage) even when the festae reached eleven inches. I now have in the tank a male salvini and a female Jag. Other than defending their respective territories they don't pay much attention to the bala.
Had an Oscar in with 3 balas, never bothered them - he was pretty laid back. My current Oscar is a terror, so she ( I'm just guessing ) is not with the balas!
