I was refilling my 220 during a water change and bala shark launched into the lid. I thought something fell at first it was loud. Went belly up instantly. I figured it knocked itself out and i held it in front of pump to revive it. Never moved just a few twitches.
No obvious damage to its head ? Anyone ever heard or seen anything like it? All my other fish are perfectly normal.

Now that i think about it i have heard of bala sharks hitting the glass so hard they break the tank. I suppose if they are capable of that they will surely knock their brains loose and die if they get spooked.

Yeahh bummer for sure.Poor guy was beefy, they don't get like that overnight.

That's a real shame, that was a nice fish.

I've lost a few fish from faceplanting into the side of a tank, to include a tigerfish once.

Probably a year and a half since i got him. He recently started growing faster when i got rid of an oscar and green terror.

Yeah I noticed that but then i looked and they were both the same size so I dismissed it. I was wondering if it had popeye. I cant say if they were like that before the impact.

Was the water filling the tank close to or the same as the tanks original temperature? I had a fish do the same thing before and after I filled the tank I realized the new water was about 5 degrees warmer than i usually keep it and it probably went into shock.

Temperature was within a degree
I did a large like 75 percent water change but i always do that. This is the first water change since i added black sand. I believe the sand is inert so i doubt the PH was changed by sand. I guess it got scared when i was working on tank and bashed his head too hard.
