I am not sure if Balas are considered monsters or not, but do they eat meat....i know they are not actual sharks like jaws, but can they be trained to eat meat (shrimp, silverside, ect). Any advice would help, thanks

I consider them to be monsters just because they can get over 14" long. You will want to keep them in groups, 3 is minimum, 5 is better. they are gentle omnivores but very active and can drive inactive fish nuts. They will take flakes, small pellets, some algae and plants, insects, worms, brine and fairy shrimp, glass shrimp, chopped shrimp, clams, fish, and once they are large enough small fish such as guppies and neons.
One thing I consider a great advantage is that you will never have a problem trading off balas that get too large, healthy 10" balas are eagerly accepted by almost any LFS that deals in moderately sized fish.

Make sure you keep a good lid on the tank,I had to watch one die because i did not close the lid all the way and it jumped and tore its eye off on the edge of the lid.I felt like crap

When I used to keep balas, one or the other never fail to jump out of the tank during water change

They will pretty much eat anything.

Ive had some that are very skittish.

As they get larger ive found that they seem to be calmer.

hey noob, you have to make 2 more valid posts and your rights shall be granted ;)

I quite like bala sharks. Out of the common tank filler/dither type fish I like balas and tinfoils.

I have a couple of small balas now actually, and yes they are very skittish.
