I got a 5' bala shark today at work and it cant close its mouth. It has been swimming around all day with its mouth open like a big tube. Any idea how to get its mouth closed?
i would catch him in a net for further inspection. if it's just hanging open, you could try to close it. although i wouldn't recomend it. i would just leave it alone, and hope it heals on it's own. i had a largemouth bass a while ago with the same problem, he was fine in about two weeks.
I would remove the Bala and try to massage it back into shape. I keep numerous Tanganyikans and this is fairly common for Compressiceps, thier jaw gets over extended during feeding. I have seen them figure it out on their own and some don't. I have had success manipulating it back into place with them, I've never tried a Bala though. Good luck...
