ok guys well ive had my ball python for several months and he been eating/shedding fine...until the past couple of weeks he has been shedding weird( patchy, incomplete) and i know this sounds gross...but what im pretty sure is his anus is swollen and sticking out of his body...its dragging on the floor(reptile carpet) he is a relatively small ball python and this swollen fleshy nastiness is about the size of a marble...help!!!

and shedding like that usually means not enough moisture in the air

The first thing I would do is get him to the vet asap.

Second, the cage should be set up differently in the future to prevent this from happening again. The patchy shed is a result of low humidity.
-Do you have a hygrometer? If so, what is it reading?
-Are you using a glass tank, plastic tub, or other? If its a glass tank, you can cover half of the screen with plastic wrap to trap the humidity in.
-How are you heating the enclosure?

I would also ditch the reptile carpet. It is very good at harboring bacteria and does not hold any humidity. I use Eco Earth and love it. My humidity is spot on. You can also use shredded aspen or cypress mulch. They will both help your humidity.

Hope this helps....good luck.

Sounds like a prolapsed rectum, i've seen it a few times in BP's. The vet can fix it up. Shedding is likely a humidity issue...
