I may pick one up to clean up my molly breeder tank, is a 30 ga good for em? And i had some questions on aggression, although mollies are not timid in any way. at least IME. Will it bully the mollies? too much stress from another fish will stop them from fertilizing their eggs inside. The geo is only about the size of a molly now and the LFS shopkeep said that they get 6 in and would be fine in a 30, and if it got too big i can trade the big one in for a small one. I also am attempting the whole ivy plant to suck out nitrates soon as i figure out a way to fit it in the tank w/o fish being able to hop out, just want to throw in live ways of cleaning other then the lil oto algae eating catfish in there now

I keep Gymnogeophagus balzani with the high altitude Mexican live bearer Xenatoca eiseni without problems in a 60 gal. The eiseni fry do become Gymno snacks though.

Both the Gymnos and the Xenotoca prefer cool water, so I don't heat the tank, Gymnos come from southern S America and the Xenatoca from high altitudes in Mexico.

The Gymnos prefer to live in harems of 1 male and a few females.

ah ok. I would have to lower the temp in that tank which may induce non spawning behaviour from the dalmation mollies, so that ideas gone, and unless I can find a big geo it'll be eaten in my monster tank that's around 78

Because the balzani are subtropical, they are built to handle fairly large swings in temp. They can take heat up to 90'F in summer, but the Uruguayan type (mine are Uruguayan) need a bit of a cool down in winter.
At the moment the temp is in the low 80s, in winter it gets down in the mid 60sF in my house.

So you think it would be fine for a tank that's stays around 80 in the summer and low 70s in the winter? I don't want to stress em out and such

Ok I'll try figuring out its collection point or breeder type and go from there, thanks for the help!
