Hi guys. My Balzanii and Australoheros scitulus are showing some very interesting behavior. The two are inseperable. They both spend most of their time on the right side of the tank, clearing off rocks and chasing away other fish. They won't tolerate any fish but each other. Breeding behavior?...Maybe an attempt, but I don't think they're related closely enough to breed. Its certainly very interesting to watch these two species cooperate. I got the Australoheros yesterday, and she was terrified every time I approached the tank...The Balzanii was very shy too. Now they couldn't care less. In fact, this is the first time I've ever seen the Balzanii on the right side of the tank (Its usually been the Gymno Cuareim's territory). He's showing some intense colors too. Anyways, he're are some pictures I took:

It looks like a female chanchito. They're some of the horniest fish this side of convicts :) I've had two females "breed" and guard the eggs until they fungased. I don't think there's any risk of a Balzani x chanchito, though!

Yeah, I'm not worried about any interbreeding. Now if only the female would take an interest in this big guy:
