Anybody grow Bamboo out of thier tank? I'm looking for what people's experiance is with this. Also what else other than pothos have you had luck growing from your tank. As always pics are welcome.

well, tbh, there are a lot of aquatic plants that can grow out of the water as well, or the simple use of floating plants.

Bamboo I've never done because I know that it needs to be more than halfway out of the water, or else it won't do too well. And Iv'e never wanted to get super tall bamboo shoots anyways. Pothos I've heard can work, but honestly I feel like something that is actually supposed to be aquatic would be a better choice of plant.

Im reasearching lotus flowers to see if in can get one to sit in my overflow box in a 3" net pot. Fingers crossed. They still havent got back to me yet. Ive done bamboo out of my overflow box but it was kinda boring. I want something more appealing to the eye.

You might be missing the point. I'm not looking for aquatic plants per se. I'm looking for plants to grow out of the water. Pothos works very well but I'm looking for what else have people grown.

This is what I'm talking about. I want to hear about different experaments. I was thinking about Bamboo but then I started thinking what else have my fellow MFK'ers grown? We are an ingenious bunch.......lol.

Well, I've heard of people using African violets in HOB filters and such.

There is honestly a lot you could do pending on how you wanton support the plant in the water and if you want any additional lighting. Riparian and aqua phonics might be things to look at for ideas.

re: your avatar angelfish, can you direct me to a seller/source? (& the angels' name, I've never seen such deep blue.)

It's either a Pinoy Zebra or Zebra Lace. I leaned towards Zebra Lace do to the lighting used in the tank but either one could easly be correct. Nice fish no doubt.

Now back to the plants.

Wait, I gotta off topic this and say that I got these from a lfs lol

I think Pinoy just cause of the amount of blue being constant (my lights are in the red spectrum so...yah)

As far as plants though...my previous posts :P

No other ideas for plants?

I'm thinking that bamboo, like pothos, would need to have some roots trimmed if transplanted to water, because roots develop differently for the two medias. It would be real pretty if tall stalks could survive within the entire tank height and also tower above the water with leaves. you could try small established stalks first. not sure whether large stalks could re-adapt underwater, or if they'd just rot.
I actually had the same question run through my head recently.
If only you could fine someone with a big established bamboo, willing to separate some off from it to try..
