Hello everyone! So... We have this gigantic bamboo plant at work that always has tons of green algea. It doesn't matter how often we change the water or rinse off the rocks, it still comes back. My question is what can I do to help keep the algea away? Is there a plant product that can help? A customer of mine said to get some snails or ottos? Keep in mind there is no filtration, so I'm not sure they are such a good idea. The bamboo is in a 10 gal. (guestamate) clear, vase-like jar. and the plant itself is over 4 feet tall. Any suggestions?

I wonder what is in the water that is feeding the algae? If you put some type of algae eating fish in there it will need something else to eat once it removes the green stuff. It might just be in a bad location.Give it a good cleaning and maybe even change the water and then place the tank/jar in a spot that does not receive too much intense light..The baamboo plant itself should be fine through all of this.

I just cleaned it out again last night. We remove all of the rocks and scrub them and the container. we even rinse out the roots. Plus it's not in any sunlight. We moved it to a back counter beacuse we thought that was the problem. But this algea keeps coming back. Help!

they sell this liquid at petstores that kills algea and ive used it plenty with no harm to my plants keeps the glass on my tanks nice and clean

Clean the container and the rocks thoroughly. Spray them with hydrogen peroxide and let it sit awhile. Rinse thoroughly. Try to clean as much as you can off the plant itself, but don't use the peroxide on the plant. Replace the rocks and plant. Put a towel or sheet around the vase so no light whatsoever can enter it. It doesn't matter that it's not in sunlight, any type of light can cause algae growth. Leave it covered for a few days or a week or so, and the algae should be gone.
