I'm planning on purchasing a brown banded bamboo shark egg offline, can anyone offer any assistance or advice to me with hatching and raising it? I'll be keeping it in a 180 gallon tank, do these creatures do well alone or will other fish help them thrive? Any advice you can offer me would be fantastic, thank you!

The lower the bioload, the better. I don't think they need any tankmates. You will need a bigger tank eventually, but the 180 should serve well for awhile.

Probably a couple years. They can grow 12" a year. At adulthood, I would recommend a tank 4 feet deep, as they can almost achieve that in length.

actually... i will disagree and say that you will need a much larger tank. while they are not as active at swimming as other sharks they do like to swim. in addition you will need to provide room for them to turn around in the tank.

Also something to note, all sharks require very good filtration as they are very different from other fish and will quickly turn water quality to crap if you don't skim like crazy.

look at a tank size 1000g or over to keep this guy happy and stress free.

i would recommend getting something smaller, like the coral catshark. They are better looking in my opinion and are more active.

We have one in the store in a 400 gal, and I feel bad for it. It's cramped. I wish they would find a home for it. I agree that 1000 gallons or more is the way to go.
