I bought a banded bamboo shark 8 days ago but it hasnt eaten anything yet, i have tried it on prawn, lance fish and mussels all of which was recommended by shop owner where i got it, iwas told it can take a while for them to start eating but i am now worried it might starve to death, has anyone got any advise...thx....

the tank size is 6ft x 2ft x 2ft. tank mates r... 1 copper band, 1 maroon clown, 1 coral beauty, 1 small stars and stripes puffer and 1 baby volitan lion fish all of which get along great although i understand i will need a larger tank soon enough.....the shark seems to get on well with the rest of them i.e. i havent noticed any bullying and he swims around great, yet the shark just wont eat any advise pls.

the shark is approx 12", i didnt see it eating in shop and not to sure if is captive bred or wild caught although the shop owner did say it was shipped from indonesia so i am guessing wild but how much truth is in that i am not sure

Try oil heavy saltwater fish.... salmon, scallops, mackerel. Those usually get them going. If it starts to go too long (and gets skinny), you can use B12 to stimulate feeding response.

cheers for that i will give it a try, he seems a lot more active today so hopefully he will take something, thx again

may your shark begin to eat

and welcome to mfk

Just a side note on all my new sharks I use a clear glass feeding stick to place food in front of the mouth of the shark (you probably have already tried that). I also would soak the fish or whatever you are using in the liquid garlic that they sell in pet stores. If eaten it will help with killing internal parasites and the smell may stimulate the shark to eat. I would also soak the food in Zoecon or something that will give it fatty acids. I even go as far as putting a drop of Marine C on the food (Just something I have always done). Try feeding at night if you can until the shark can get use to daytime feedings. Just keep trying once you get him going he will learn to come out and eat when ever you want.

I gotta tell all you shark keepers, the more of these I read, the more I am glad I don't do them, and the more I think they belong in the ocean.... NO OFFENCE TO ANYONE!!!!
