I have 2 in my FW tank. Really neat 'little' guys. Fun to watch as the filter feed. The eggs require full salt (or maybe brackish) to hatch, but apparently it's even more difficult that that to breed them. Probably not a good idea if your water is crystal clear, as they need a food source in the water column.
Edit: found the page I was looking for. You'll have to scroll down for the wood shrimp. Shirmp info
and Linky
They will starve if they don't have water with free floating specs of food. They would love my tank, and my puffers would love them. That is why I am getting a diatom filter to pull that junk out of the water.
I have almost 20 bamboo shrimp that I keep in a 100 gallon tank with several Cherax sp. Tigers and they are not in brackish or full on salt water. As a matter of fact they are kept in total freshwater and I haven't lost a one. They are also molting and growing wonderfully.
They help clean the bottom of the tank....
I absolutely love them and would reccomend them.. They are easy to keep and fun to watch....
Mine crawl all over the crayfish and believe it or not the crayfish do nothing other than sit there and let it happen.....
