Moved 2.1 (2 males, 1 female) brown banded bamboo sharks from a holding to one of the main 3,000 gallon cylinder displays. This display hasn't had sharks for about a year, so I'm excited to have a healthy group ready to go in. Had my daughter along as an extra set of hands.
I put them in a holding bin after catching them out of the grow out tank. When you catch sharks, they release a hormone in the water as part of being stressed. That hormone can trash your transport water quickly, so I let them get it all out in a bin for a few minutes before putting them into a mix of 50% new SW and 50% holding SW (temp, pH and salinity matched).
Bagged them up (50% water, 50% oxygen) and moved them to the new location (30 min drive). Got them out and into a 50 gallon Brute for acclimation. I ran a hose from the new display's sump and let it mix about 30 minutes. I keep all the parameters the same at all locatoins so temp/pH/salinity were already the same.
Roll them out, up the ladder and in the top they go. They'll need about three months before they are seen quickly. At 12-15", they hide very well in 3,000 gallons. Haha
